Meet The Urban Network Digital Team
This team of top entertainment executives has substantial corporate backgrounds and a combined 150 years of experience in business development, marketing, branding, public relations and sponsorship-sales. They are highly proficient in working radio and retail campaigns for small and large record labels, and securing distribution in all forms of on- and off-line music marketing. They are also experts in the fields of new media and social media marketing, and in developing multimedia-marketing campaigns whether online, print and direct mail programs.
Arthur Mitchell – President, Urban Network Digital, Conference Co-Producer
Mitchell officially joined Urban Network in 2004 as Vice President of Business Development, where he was responsible for bringing in sponsorship-sales and seeking out branding opportunities. He launched Urban Network Digital in 2008, a news site and online platform supporting independent labels and aspiring artists. Mitchell was instrumental in taking the Urban Network magazine and company to a digital format—starting with the creation of the company’s first digital magazine to implementing and creating a vast email database. Mitchell was also responsible for taking the Urban Network conferences on the road—expanding into markets such as Memphis, Seattle, Miami, and returning to San Diego, May 1-4. One of Mitchell’s goal is to spread the word on technological advances being made in music and for the urban music community to embrace.
Arthur Mitchell III aka DJ Artistic – Vice President
From what started as a mere childhood dream, DJing has developed into a full-time career for DJ Artistic due to his persistence, hard work and dedication. Starting his career in 1995, Artistic threw Apollo-style events called “The Breakthrough.” He brought up-and-coming DJs and MCs to the stage to showcase their skills in front of large crowds. These events eventually created a buzz about DJ Artistic’s skills and established a strong reputation for him in the music business as a man who cares about the music community and goes above and beyond what is required in order to help others succeed.
David A. Mitchell – Consultant, Conference Co-Producer
David Mitchell is Founder and Publisher of Amalgamation Magazine: An Industry Quarterly. Now in its 5th year, the publication targets urban entertainment professionals, and features articles focused on music industry execs, behind the scenes movers and shakers, songwriters, producers, recording artists, and more. Mitchell was with Urban Network (1993-2009), namely as VP/ Managing Editor, and has partnered with the team to re-launch the Urban Network Digital/Amalgamation Mag Summit.
Leonard J. Thompson III – M.A.N.D.A.T.E. Records Inc. (President & CEO) & Conference Gospel Co-Chair
Leonard J. Thompson III has been in the music industry for over 35 years, first as a musician and later as a record label executive, promoter and manager. Mr. Thompson’s love for music was birthed in the church and developed by multi-cultural experiences. His passion for music with positive lyrics and life-changing messages fuels his vision to think outside the box of the entertainment industry to help artists develop their own unique sound. Mr. Thompson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Master’s Degree in Education and is Ordained as an Elder in the Church of God In Christ.
Lin Woods – President, the Inspired Company, VP/Gospel Editor
Lin was the long-time Senior Editor of Gospel Music at Urban Network. She is a 20-year music industry vet, who heads her own music entertainment media firm, the Inspired Company, which produces a national radio program, the Inspired Entertainment News Reports, heard on ABC Radio Networks. She also produces a St. Louis-based educational series, Inspired Music Entertainment Seminar.
Miller London – Chief Consultant/Summit Co-Chair/Chairman, Board of Directors
The former CEO, heart & soul of Urban Network, Mr. London will serve in a role as Chief consultant and chairman of the board of directors. He joined Urban Network in 1994 as President of the company, and acquired the organization in 2003. Mr. London has a long and respected record label background having held senior executive posts at Motown, RCA and A&M Records.
Robert (Leo) Rodgers, MBA – Sr. VP & Label Liaison, Bungalo Records/Universal Music Group Dist./Consultant/Board Member
Rodgers is currently the SVP & Label Liaison of Bungalo/Universal Music Group Dist., a position he has held for 9 years, where he has spearheaded five Top 40, four Top 5, and three No. 1 Billboard hits. Rodgers has also served as a guest speaker for many years at the Digital Hollywood Conference, as well as multiple music and film festivals conferences. More recently, Mr. Rodgers received a BET Urban Music Executive Award for 2011, and was also appointed to start up a new Film/DVD/VOD distribution division for Bungalo Films.
John Patillo – FUNN Networks, Recording Artist Guild, Urban Market Access and 5150 Media, Consultant/Board Member
Mr. Patillo is a 12-year veteran of the music business. As a senior consultant and marketing manager for independent and major record labels, he has worked with such artists as Daz Dillinger, Kurupt, Roscoe, Wine O, DJ Quik, Coo Coo Cal, Slim Thug, Remedy, the DOC, Paperbo, and many more. Mr. Patillo’s expertise in cable buys, radio, publicity and street teams has helped him effectively analyze key markets and create strong business models that produce profitable results.
Kevin Briscoe – Artist Relations
Kevin has worked at Urban Network Digital for the past seven years in various capacities, under the tutelage of his father Arthur Mitchell and Urban Network radio program director Harold Whaley. Kevin has worked as music director for Urban Network Radio helping to make the station one of the top online stations that now broadcast to two-million listeners in 83 countries. Kevin spent a year working with music marketing executive Kevin Black as his assistant for World Star Hip Hop and Black’s marketing company, U Can Fly Holdings.
